| Description: |
Perennials, densely to loosely caespitose, robust; rhizome short or ascending. Leaves with obtuse apex. Lower bracts usually 1–3, to 5 cm long, erecto-patent to reflexed, longer than inflorescence. Inflorescence a single large globose to ovoid lobulate head to 1.5–2.0 cm in diam., sometimes with 1–4 clusters more distinct, shortly pedunculate. Bracteoles ovate, scarious, ±ciliate, to c. 1.5 mm long. Tepals ±equal, lanceolate, long acuminate, deep castaneous brown to pale castaneous; margins broad, whitish-scarious, distinct. Stamens 6. Capsule oblong-ovoid, subacute, shorter than perianth, usually dark castaneous-brown. Seeds ±ellipsoid. |
