Description: Plants 10–35 cm tall, often with persistent leaf bases. Basal leaves canaliculate, stiff, c. 7–12 cm long, (1.5–) 3.0–4.0 mm wide; cauline leaves 1–2, to c. 7 cm long; margins subglabrous to sparsely ciliate, swollen, smooth. Lower bracts to c. 3 mm wide. Inflorescence always congested. Tepals 2.5–3.7 mm long. Anthers 1.0–1.4 mm long; filaments 0.4–0.5 mm long; style 0.4–0.6 mm long; stigmas 1.8–2.5 mm long. Capsule ±smooth; capsule segments 2.4–2.6 × c. 1.4 mm. Seeds 1.2–1.3 mm long, 0.6–0.7 mm wide; appendage to 0.1 mm long. 2n=12 [AL], fide E.Edgar, New Zealand J. Bot. 13: 790 (1975). Fig. 29.
