Description: Perennials, densely caespitose; rhizome short, rarely ascending; stolons absent. Leaves canaliculate, with smooth margins; tips obtuse, often swollen, sometimes acute or mucronate when young. Lower bract ±herbaceous, to 2 cm long, equalling or exceeding inflorescence. Inflorescence usually a single congested head to 1.2 cm in diam. Tepals equal, glabrous, 1.7–2.6 mm long, lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, rufous to castaneous-brown; margins distinct, whitish-scarious and ±broad in distal part. Stamens 6. Capsule broadly ovoid to oblong-ovoid, subobtuse, ±equalling perianth, pale to dark castaneous-brown. Seeds broadly ovoid, castaneous-brown; appendage small, whitish, c. 0.1 mm long, fibrillate.
