Perennial, 7–28 cm tall, glabrous or locally sparsely pubescent; stolons to 8 (–15) cm long. Stem with numerous basal and 2–3 cauline flat leaves; basal leaves 2–17 cm × 1.5–4 mm; basal sheaths green to yellowish green; cauline leaves 2–7 cm × 1.5–3 mm, glabrous to sparsely pubescent at margins, with a short mucronate projection on callose tip. Inflorescence terminal, mostly simple, sometimes with 1–3 secondary pedicels present; secondary/primary pedicels ratio 0–0.6; primary pedicels 4–7 (–9), ascending, spreading to reflexed; flowers borne singly on primary or sometimes also on secondary pedicels. Basal bract to 3.5 cm long, shorter than inflorescence. Bracteoles 1.3–3.1 mm long. Tepals equal, 2.8–4.9 mm long, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, apiculate to acuminate, entire, yellowish pale green or stramineous to light brown (rarely to castaneous brown) with hyaline margins. Stamens 6; anthers 0.9–1.5 mm long, longer than filaments; anther/filament ratio 1.2–2.2; style 0.4–0.8 mm long; stigmas 1.3–4.4 mm long, ±persistent. Capsule ovoid, acute to rostrate, equalling or slightly exceeding tepals, light brown to stramineous. Notes:

Plants from the S margin of the distribution range (Bosnia, Macedonia, Greece) sometimes have tepals castaneous brown. This may represent variation within the species or introgression of L. forsteri.
