| Description: |
Perennials, (10–) 15–20 (–30) cm tall, densely caespitose, bright green; rhizome short; stolons absent; shoots often slightly bulbous at base. Basal leaves ±flat, c. 5–10 cm long, usually 2–3 mm wide; cauline leaves 1–2, c. 2.0–4.5 cm long; margins ciliate, sparsely papillose-serrulate or almost smooth; apex obtuse. Lower bract 0.5–1.5 (–3.0) cm long, erecto-patent, shorter to longer than inflorescence. Inflorescence congested in a single ovoid head c. 1.0–1.5 cm long, rarely 1–2 of the clusters shortly pedunculate. Bracteoles ovate, scarious, fimbriate, to c. 1.0–1.5 mm long. Tepals ±equal, ovate-lanceolate, 1.9–2.5 mm long, acuminate, pale castaneous-brown at base and midrib, otherwise whitish or creamy-scarious. Stamens 6; anthers 0.2–0.6 mm long; filaments 0.5–0.7 mm long; style 0.2–0.3 mm long; stigmas 0.9–1.2 mm long. Capsule obovoid, subobtuse, ±equalling perianth, deep reddish-brown, ±smooth; capsule segments 1.8–2.0 × 1.3–1.4 mm. Seeds ±ovoid, brown, 0.8–0.9 mm long, 0.6–0.7 mm wide; appendage 0.2–0.3 mm long. Endemic in the mountains of E South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria. Wet pastures, grassy places in eucalypt woodland, swamps and swampy grasslands at higher altitudes. Map 134., 50.
