Perennials, 15–40 cm tall, densely caespitose; rhizome short; stolons absent. Basal leaves
5–14 cm long, 2–3 mm wide. Cauline leaves 2–3, c. 2.5–8 cm long, densely ciliate at sheath mouth; margins densely papillose-serrulate; apex obtuse, swollen. Lower bract c. 1–2 cm long, herbaceous, shorter than inflorescence. Inflorescence of one subsessile and 1–5 pedunculate clusters; clusters ovoid to subglobose, (4–) 7–10 (–14)-flowered, 4–6 × 3–6 mm; peduncles straight, suberect, to flexuose or slightly recurved, ±smooth, c. 1–3 cm long. Bracteoles ovate, 1.5–2.0 mm long, scarious, ±fimbriate. Tepals ±equal, ovate-lanceolate, carinate,
c. 2.7–3.1 mm long, acuminate-subaristate, pale brown to dark brown; margins distinct, broad, brownish-scarious. Stamens 6; anthers 0.8–1.0 mm long, usually 3–5 times as long as 0.2–0.4 (–0.5) mm filaments; style 0.5–0.7 mm long; stigmas 1.5–1.9 mm long. Capsule broadly ovoid, ±subacute, ±mucronate, pale brown to brown, shorter than perianth; capsule segments c. 2.0–2.2 × c. 1.4 mm. Seeds oblong-ovoid, 0.9–1.0 mm long, c. 0.7 mm wide; appendage c. 0.2–0.3 mm long. |
